Located in Downtown Cortez, the Elm Street Tavern features reasonably priced food, that is pretty good too! The afternoon of our visit there were a few people in the bar, and none in the restaurant. We evidently showed up right at shift change and went unnoticed for a minute (I don’t expect people to be at the top of their game at three pm) but were seated as soon as the waitress saw us.
We sat on the pleasant patio, with fountains and lots of shade it was the ideal lunch spot. For starters we had the Southwest Egg rolls, nice and spicy, with a dipping sauce that didn’t do much for the rolls. I had the Prime Rib Sandwich with Italian pasta salad, it was a great choice, the roll was salted, and it just made the sandwich as did the homemade au jus. I wasn’t a big fan of the pasta salad, but if you like olives it was good (I don’t). My partner had the Caser Salad with Shrimp which was enjoyed thoroughly.
Our meal price was $32.75 for the Appetizer, Meal Size Salad, Sandwich, and two Dr Peppers not including tip.
Overall I would recommend the Elm Street Tavern, the food was good, the service was acceptable, and the atmosphere is wonderful. If you are a drinker and smoker the bar is attached to the patio, and one can take one’s drink with them to smoke.
